How many times a day are you required to enter a password for something online? Do you use the same password for everything? What about password saving programs or apps? Passwords have become a necessary part of life for us and I felt the topic needed some discussion. This will probably turn into a short series on security, rotational responsibilities, and best practices.
A quick Google search for “password” returns primarily listings for password generators and managers. That tells us people want to create a secure password and then need help remembering it. In my years of working with clients, passwords have always been a challenge. I’m often unable to offer the technology assistance requested until a password is found, sometimes scribbled with other random notes on a piece of paper in the bottom of a drawer.
I encourage you to develop a system for creating and keeping track of passwords for all aspects of life. This becomes even more important for organizations that have account passwords for various services. It’s not uncommon for someone to leave a position having been the person that set up an account and also the only one with access.
